
European Studies (ES) is a required third semester course for Management Course (MC) students. Only the highest and lowest classes are streamed. This content-based class meets once a week on Fridays. While all English courses in our program are 4-skills, the main focus of ES is on reading, writing and critical thinking.

Japan Studies is a content-based English course, with an integrated skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening) focus. This course will be taught in three-week modules, and will cover four broad themes as they relate to Japan: (1) society/culture, (2) business/economy, (3) the environment, and (4) politics/government. Students will be challenged to build on their existing background knowledge, and reflect more deeply on what it means to be Japanese and Japan’s role on the world stage. Weekly reading and/or listening assignments will be used as a basis for in-class discussions and activities. Students will develop English writing skills in the following genres: narrative, recount, and report.

This is a practical business skills course focused on various forms of communication for the workplace. The aim is to prepare students for international and domestic business contexts using a variety of tasks and exercises designed to develop English language fluency and accuracy. Students will work in groups to research a specific company and conduct mock business meetings. Students will be responsible for individual preparation and contributions to team projects. In doing so, they will gain experience relevant to workplace expectations.

Introduction to TOEIC (IT) is a required third semester (2nd Year) course. It is a streamed, test-taking preparatory class meeting once a week. While all English courses in our program are 4-skills, the main focus of IT is on improving TOEIC scores with continued emphasis on Extensive Reading (ER) and high-frequency vocabulary (NGSL 1501-2000).
